Thrifted Thursday

Today's outfit is 90 % thrifted. Only the shoes were bought in a health food shop, they are so called china slippers and I got them in cherry red, which is so pretty. The blouse is from Oxfam and the skirt and belt are from the  Hep-Shop in Mönchengladbach. Just recently I realised that since I moved to Hamburg I haven't bought any clothes. Somehow I don't get around to browse the shops as often as I could during my study times. There are a couple of good second-hand stores in Hamburg though and I look forward to July, when I will have the time to go thrifting again.

Me-made Mittwoch Blümchen

Mit diesem Post schaffe ich es zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe zu schlagen.
1. Es ist Mittwoch und ich trage etwas Selbstgenähtes
2. Der Stoff ist geblümt und zwar mit Blümchen, nicht mit Blumen.
A propos Blümchen, ich bin hoffentlich nicht die einzige, die auch nach Jahren noch den Text zu "Piep,piep kleiner Satellit" im Kopf hat? Aber ich schweife ab, hier soll es ja in erster Linie um Selbstgenähtes gehen und nicht über Jugendsünden. Obwohl, wenn man unter 30 ist, was ist dann die Jugend?
Nun aber zum Wesentlichen: Dieses "T-Shirt" aus einem Baumwoll-Seiden-Gemisch von Zanderino (mit 99% Sicherheit bin ich der Meinung, dass das genau der Stoff ist, aus dem ein Kleid der ersten Kate Moss Kollektion für Tophop gewesen ist) ist nach dem selben Schnitt genäht wie mein Ringelshirt von letzter Woche. Dies ist allerdings ein Gewebe und dementsprechend fällt der Stoff anders. Wer weiß, vielleicht trage ich nächste Woche dann Version 3 des Schnittes, nur der Vollständigkeit halber.
Blümchen sind eins meiner Lieblingsmuster, für den Sommer habe ich eine große Auswahl an Blümchen- und Blumendrucken. Leider sind die Teile noch in meinem Winterquartier und werden erst im Juni ausgepackt. Ich habe mittlerweile so viele Sachen selbstgenäht, dass ich zwei Garderoben habe- eine Frühjahr/Sommer und eine Herbst/Winter Kollektion. Die Freude ist dann immer groß, wenn man die Kisten aus- und umpackt und dabei die Kleidung in neuem Licht sieht.
Habt ihr schon von "The Hive" gehört? Diese Bloggerkonferenz fand letztes Wochenende in Berlin statt und obwohl ich nicht dabei war, bin ich ganz inspiriert von den tollen Vorträgen dort. Auf der Facebook-Seite findet ihr auch die Links zu all den Berichten über die Veranstaltung.
Darum habe ich mich heute abend auch mal bequemt einen etwas schöneren Hintergrund für mein Foto zu suchen und bin ein wenig mit dem Fahrrad rumgefahren. Mein neues Stativ hat dafür gesorgt, dass ich die Kamera nicht auf irgendwelchen Steinen abstellen mussten und ich bin ganz zufrieden mit den Bildern. Aber irgendwie ist es immer so, man macht 50 Fotos und die besten sind immer die letzten. Ach, was würde ich doch dafür geben mal von einem professionellen Fotografen in Szene gesetzt zu werden.

A new me-made and some interesting books

I'm so happy. It is Wednesday and I finally wear something me-made and get around to take a picture of the outfit. Since this happened rarely in the past weeks, I quickly post the outcome before I get lost in my books again. What kind of books I'm reading right now? You'll see at the end of this post. The fabric is actually quite old, I posted about it on my second post in Mai 2011, which made me realize that I completely missed the first birthday of my blog. Wow, I already document what I make for a year! Well, on to a sucessfull second year then. I have some plans for the blog and as soon as I finish my studies I'll try to turn the ideas in my head into reality. But first I have to conquer the last battle of my studies which is the final thesis. On Monday I officially applied for the thesis and in 2 months I'll hopefully be able to call myself a Bachelor.
Here you can get a glimpse of what I'm working on. I love my topic because it is something that I'm really passionate about and enjoy getting into it even further.

The Comfy Cardigan! Finally!

Yay, I made it. After more than a year in the make, I finished my cardigan a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunalety it is a bit too warm to wear now, but I think it will be great for long nights at the beach. The cardigan is so comfy and cuddly, the ideal thing to just wrap in and feel good. I have to admit though, I didn't finish it by  myself. My expert-knitter mom made the final touches like adding a button tab and shortening the sleeves, which were about 15 cm too long.
I finished the jacket by sewing on the wooden buttons.

I had to play a little bit with Gimp, because my room is a total mess right now. I'm currently in the final steps of my studies, which means I do an internship and go home and write something for my final thesis. The topic is really fun and has a lot to do with the things I love - sewing and fabrics. But somehow the time gets lost and I neglect the housework.
Anyway, here are some closeups of the buttons and the collar which is knitted in a 2x2 rib.

The yarn was a bargain buy from Woolworth, I think it cost me in total 25 € and I still have two or three balls left. I know that this jacket will be a jacket for my life. It was inspired by a cardigan that my mother made about 25 years ago, which became a favourite of mine and which she still wears on cold evenings. The shape hugs the body and the pockets are in just the right height to keep the hands warm. The pattern was taken from an old magazine, but I only took that as a guide and adjusted the number of rows and stitches according to my measurements.
