Break a leg!

Since two weeks I'm allowed to walk on two legs again, without crutches just using my legs. It's a great feeling and the day after I got the news from the doctor, I happily walked around in my flat without any reason. You don't notice how cool it is to be able to walk and carry around stuff at the same time. With the crutches I always had to carry a bag around my neck or carry a messenger bag, but I wasn't able to transport drinks from the kitchen to the living room. Now I can and it is great!

I haven't done any sewing in a while, but yesterday I sat in front of my machine again and I was a bit nervous. I made a top from a trusted pattern, just to get into the groove again. I'm not 100% happy with it yet, but maybe I'll show it during Me-made-May!
I couldn't participate last year, because of all the changes that happened in my life, but this year I feel that it is possible to participate again and so I declare herewith:

'I, Tine from sewontrend.blogspot.com, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '13. I endeavour to wear one handmade item each day for the duration of May 2013. Furthermore I will wear a complete handmade outfit once a week. Since I'll attend my graduation ceremony in the last week of the challenge, I will make a me-made-outfit for that occasion.'

The outfit that I was wearing today would already count as a Me-made-May outfit. I made the socks, cardigan and shirt. The shirt actually has a really cool princess seam and is very slimming. You'll definitely get to see it again in May.

Bye bye crutches!

I'm back on track. After my last doctor's appointment I got the permission to walk again. So, now I'm back in the game again. Many ideas for projects have formed in my head and finally I'll be able to make them.
My right foot is still a bit swollen, but that will get better in the next days I hope.

More important is that I can walk around again and carry things in my hands, which is basically what I did the whole afternoon after the appointment.

This weekend I'll rearrange some furniture and soon I'll also start to work again. Work from home was fun, and it definitely has some advantages, but I miss the daily opportunity to dress up.
Spring has arrived in the north of Germany, so it's time to wear the light blouses and dresses again.

New idea: Chevron Quilt

Trying out fabric combinations with the new fabric table at stoffe.de
So, I've been sewing for nearly 10 years already, and have just realized that I haven't tried much apart from sewing clothes. Okay, there has been the occasional pillow and I also had a massive period where I was only sewing bags ( in the beginning of my sewing career), but I've come to realize that I really lack knowledge about different sewing techniques.
Something I want to change and so I 've been thinking about making my first quilt. There have been a lot of really pretty quilts in the sewing world in the past weeks, e.g Luzia Pimpinellas triangle quilt or Dickmadammes colourful version.

I want to have a quilt for my bedroom and it should match my curtains. The curtains have stripes in pink, grey and a really pretty mint-turquoise-greenish colour, which I love. I already got a matching lamp at Ikea which only needs to be installed.
So I've been searching the internet for fabrics in those colours and I think that I've found the perfect match. These cotton fabrics from stoffe.de are from the same supplier, so they are the same weight and colour patch.

Now I only need to calculate how much of the fabrics I need and decide on a colour for the backside and the binding. I think I'll use some fleece on the backside, possibly in pink.
For the pattern I want to do a really simple chevron. I've found this tutorial on YouTube, which illustrates the process very well - and triangles should't be too difficult to match and sew.

Here you can see some of the fabrics that I chose.

Cotton Vichy – 0,2 cm, 7
Cotton stars small 17
Disclaimer: Yes, I work for the company that operates the webshop stoffe.de, but even if I wouldn't work there, it would have been my first stop to look for the perfect fabrics.
